The Medical Community's Use of Healing Energy        In this week's excerpt from Lessons from the Miracle Doctors, Jon Barron gives examples of the medical community's use of healing energy. "Curiously enough, although the conventional medical community has a particular antipathy when it comes to 'New Age' healing energy devices, it uses similar devices itself with gay abandon. What is radiation therapy but the direct application of high-intensity energy to the body to achieve a specific healing result? Ultrasound is the same thing, just a different form of energy with a different frequency for a different medical purpose. How interesting that when the medical community uses energy for healing, it's considered 'science,' but when alternative healers do the same thing, it's called 'quackery.' Several years ago, researchers at Harvard Medical School began experimenting with using electromagnetic pulses to treat depression. Called transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS), it involves holding a figure 8–shaped wand near a person's head while generating a strong magnetic field to induce electric currents in brain cells. The researchers believe that TMS works by normalizing disturbed brain activity. In experiments at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston, TMS lifted the spirits of depressed patients who were resistant to antidepressant drugs. Can't you just hear the conventional medical community's commentary on this device if it had been first used in an alternative health clinic? It would have been dismissed out of hand as mumbo-jumbo quackery. But that thought aside, the key point is that we have the ultimate statement from medical researchers that subtle energy fields, transmitted through the "ether," can directly affect our bodies and our biological functions."
